A Ton of Cricket

Koonwarra has been the home of cricket for over 100 years. With modest beginnings, playing on a matting over gravel pitch, Koonwarra soon attracted some of South Gippsland's best cricketing talent.

Koonwarra first played near the site of the old brick kilns, adjacent to Koonwarra Sanctuary. In 1928, the club moved to a gravel pitch on Dick Stockdale's property for two years before moving to the current site.

Registration was 2 shillings and sixpence, or about £0.12. There was no official training, and selection took place on Saturday, depending on who turned up.
